BRIDGES
WHAT ARE BRIDGES?
A stationary dental appliance that is fixed in place of missing teeth. Bridges are bonded or cemented onto supporting teeth or implants. They are a series of crowns (ceramic restorations) that bridge the gap between missing teeth.
REASONS FOR BRIDGES:
Fill in the space for missing teeth
Maintain the shape of your face
Prevent teeth from drifting out of position
Restore functionality (chewing, speaking, smiling, etc.)
Upgrade from removable dentures to stable and permanent bridges
PROCESS OF BRIDGES:
Involves reshaping the teeth by removing a portion of enamel (the hard mineralised surface of teeth) for a crown (ceramic restoration) to be placed over them. Impressions of the teeth are then created and serve as a model to be made in the dental office. A temporary bridge may be made to wear and protect the exposed teeth and gums while the finalized bridge is being created. Then the temporary bridge will be removed and the finalized bridge will be cemented into place and adjusted comfortably to ensure a perfect fit.
